Job Position: Operating Room Head Nurse

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Operating Room Head Nurse to lead our surgical nursing team and ensure the smooth, efficient, and safe delivery of perioperative care. As the senior nurse in the operating theatre, you will be responsible for supervising nursing activities in the OR, coordinating with surgical teams, and ensuring compliance with best practices in infection prevention and patient safety.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Oversee the day-to-day operations of the Operating Room and surgical nursing team;
• Supervise, mentor, and support scrub nurses, circulating nurses, and support staff;
• Coordinate and manage daily surgical schedules in collaboration with surgeons and anesthesiologists;
• Ensure that all surgical instruments, supplies, and equipment are properly sterilized, available, and functioning;
• Maintain high standards of aseptic technique and infection control;
• Monitor and enforce compliance with operating room protocols, hospital policies, and regulatory standards;
• Lead pre-operative briefings and post-operative debriefings to enhance patient safety and team communication;
• Participate in performance evaluations, training, and continuous professional development of OR staff;
• Respond quickly and effectively to emergencies during surgical procedures;
• Prepare and maintain accurate documentation and reports related to surgeries, equipment, and staffing.

Educational Qualification 

• Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) or related field ;

Job Requirements

• Valid nursing license/registration is mandatory;
• Excellent communication skills verbal & written;
• Experience using hospital management systems or electronic medical records (EMR);
• Prior experience in a tertiary or specialized surgical center;
• Energetic and willing to work flexible shifts, including weekends;
• Emotionally mature with a sense of humour to maintain balance;

Work Experience:

• Minimum 5 years of clinical nursing experience, with at least 2 years in a senior OR nurse or supervisory role
